From Alta to North Cape and the Varanger region, through fjords, tundra and sea, you will travel under an endless sky, accompanied by reindeer, puffins and hundreds of seabirds. Five days to experience the eternal Arctic light—an experience that stays with you forever.
Day 1 – Alta: The Arctic Gateway
Arrival and first contact with the North Your journey begins in Alta, one of the most important towns beyond the Arctic Circle. Here the air is pure and silence is already part of the experience. Even on your first day, the midnight sun begins to reveal itself: the light is no longer winter, but not yet summer—an eternal dawn creating fascinating colours and reflections. After dinner, we will go on a scenic drive to explore the surrounding landscapes. We will stop at beaches, fjords and hidden viewpoints, choosing the best places to observe, contemplate and immerse ourselves in the magic of the North awakening. Each stop will be a moment to breathe, take photos or simply let yourself be wrapped in the endless light.
Day 2 – North Cape & Hurtigruten: The Edge of Europe
A journey between myth and reality We head towards North Cape, where the continent seems to end and the horizon opens into infinity. Empty roads, tundra, fjords and reindeer suddenly crossing the road—every turn feels like a movie scene. At the North Cape Plateau, we stop to contemplate what is often considered the northernmost point of Europe, a place where the mind perceives the edge of the world. We then return towards Honningsvåg to board the legendary Hurtigruten. Sailing on the Barents Sea is a multisensory experience: waves, coastal landscapes, cliffs, continuous light, suspended silence and icy air filling your lungs. After a few hours of navigation, we disembark in Berlevåg late in the evening and head to Kongsfjord Arctic Lodge, arriving in the final hours of the day—the perfect moment to experience the calm of the Arctic. Dinner and a walk among the small houses of Veines. Overnight: Kongsfjord Arctic Lodge
Day 3 – Syltefjord: King Crab Experience & Midnight Sun Trek
After breakfast, we depart for Syltefjord, one of the most remote bays in the region, surrounded by cliffs and wide coastal tundra landscapes. Here we join a King Crab Safari, an experience to explore Arctic waters in search of the iconic king crab. On board small RIB boats, we navigate the fjord while learning about the biology of this species and its role in local culture and economy. The Barents Sea is one of the most productive ecosystems in the North Atlantic, and we will look for seabirds such as gannet colonies, as well as seals and sea eagles, and with a bit of luck, even large whales. After the boat experience, we enjoy freshly caught king crab in a traditional red fisherman’s cabin on the bay. We then continue to Båtsfjord, one of the most active fishing ports in Finnmark. We walk through the village, observing daily life in Arctic communities and functional architecture shaped by wind, snow and sea. In the afternoon, we return to Kongsfjord to relax in a seaside sauna overlooking the Barents Sea, followed by a fresh seafood dinner and storytelling about Arctic wildlife and the midnight sun. The day ends with a trek under the endless light, between tundra and sea, where every step seems to slow down time. We finish with the Midnight Sun Ritual, a moment of contemplation and warm tea, listening to a nature that never sleeps. Overnight: Kongsfjord Arctic Lodge
Day 4 – Vardø & Hornøya: A Sanctuary for Birdwatchers
We leave Kongsfjord and head east, following the Barents Sea coast to Vardø, the easternmost town in mainland Norway. We stop for several photo breaks between Tana Bru, Varangerbotn and Nesseby, searching for special bird species that reach the Varanger grasslands and plateaus during these weeks of May. We reach Vardø, overlooking the Barents Sea and connected to the mainland by an underwater tunnel. We sail to Hornøya Island, a small island hosting some of the largest seabird colonies in Europe. Hundreds of puffins, guillemots, shags, cormorants and kittiwakes fill the sky and sea with colour, sound and life. After dinner, we visit Vardøhus Fortress, the northernmost fortress in the world, a strategic outpost for centuries of Arctic navigation and polar routes. Nearby, the Steilneset Witch Memorial tells one of the darkest chapters of Nordic history—the 17th-century witch trials—through a powerful contemporary installation immersed in the oblique Arctic light. Along the waterfront, the large Viking Drakkar ship, symbol of Nordic exploration towards the Pole and Arctic routes, closes a journey through history, myth and geographical frontier. Overnight: Vardø Hotel or Vadsø
Day 5 – Kirkenes: Departure and Farewell to the Sun
A final look at the Arctic. The last morning is slow and contemplative: breakfast, a walk along the Varangerfjord, final photos, and transfer to the airport for departure, carrying with you the memory of five days in which the North revealed its eternal light and returning life.
