This journey leads straight into the heart of authentic Arctic wilderness. From Finnish Lapland we travel north to Varanger, one of the most remote regions in Europe, where the tundra meets the Barents Sea and silence seems endless. In Kongsfjord, within the Skua Nature village, we experience the Arctic as locals do: through close contact with the sea, traditional activities and moments of deep connection with nature. Easter celebrated with a snowshoe hike across the tundra and a festive Easter lunch overlooking the Arctic Ocean. The journey culminates on Hornøya Island, a true birdwatchers’ paradise, where puffins, guillemots, cormorants and thousands of seabirds return to nest on dramatic sea cliffs. And when night falls, all it takes is stepping outside to find ourselves beneath one of the clearest skies on Earth, waiting for the very last Northern Lights of the season.
Day 1 – Arrival in Ivalo and Journey to Kongsfjord
We arrive in Ivalo, in the heart of Finnish Lapland, beyond the Arctic Circle. From here we immediately head north, crossing snow-covered forests, frozen rivers and vast open landscapes that mark our entrance into the Arctic world. After crossing into Norway, we reach the Barents Sea coast and the village of Veines (Kongsfjord). Accommodation at the Kongsfjord Arctic Lodge, overlooking the sea. Dinner on the road and our first Northern Lights observation.
Day 2 – King Crab Experience and Arctic Sauna
After breakfast, we take part in one of Varanger’s most iconic experiences: a boat excursion to catch the Arctic King Crab, the giant of these northern waters. Back on land, we enjoy a lunch featuring freshly caught King Crab. The afternoon is dedicated to relaxation in the lodge’s seaside sauna, accompanied by hot drinks and homemade treats. The bravest may conclude with a plunge into the snow, or directly into the Barents Sea. Dinner in Kongsfjord and, later in the evening, Northern Lights observation.
Day 3 – Easter Snowshoe Hike and Easter Lunch
Easter in the Arctic is celebrated immersed in nature. After breakfast, we set out on a guided snowshoe hike across the tundra, moving through silent landscapes shaped by ice and wind, with the Arctic Ocean appearing on the horizon. We return to Kongsfjord for a traditional Easter lunch, prepared with local ingredients and served in a warm, convivial atmosphere. The afternoon is free for walking, photography or relaxation. Dinner and, conditions permitting, another chance to observe the Northern Lights.
Day 4 – Vardø, Hornøya Island and Overnight in Vadsø
After breakfast, we depart for Vardø, one of Europe’s easternmost towns. In the afternoon, weather permitting, we reach Hornøya Island, a renowned sanctuary for seabirds and a true birdwatching paradise. Here, on cliffs overlooking the Barents Sea, thousands of seabirds gather during the breeding season, including puffins, common guillemots, cormorants, black-legged kittiwakes and many other species. An unforgettable experience for nature lovers and photographers alike. In the evening we continue to Vadsø, where we check into our hotel and enjoy dinner at restaurant.
Day 5 – Kirkenes and Departure
After breakfast, we travel to Kirkenes, crossing the vast landscapes of eastern Finnmark. Arrival at the airport and departure for our return flight.
