The vast forests of Lapland and the rugged coastlines of the Norwegian fjords are completely painted in yellow, orange, and red, transforming already stunning landscapes into a unique postcard-like vision. Day 1
We will arrive in Kirkenes in the evening and immediately immerse ourselves in the Arctic wilderness by heading to Øvre Pasvik, one of the most remote and pristine areas of Norway. This region is home to the last untouched boreal forests of Europe, offering a true experience of Arctic nature. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a traditional dinner in a wooden tent around a fire, embracing the atmosphere of the wild taiga. If the sky is clear, we will keep an eye out for the Aurora Borealis dancing above us. Overnight in the area of Øvre Pasvik or Kirkenes.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will explore the vast boreal forest of Øvre Pasvik, where the landscape is shaped by ancient pine trees, lakes, and traces of Arctic wildlife, including moose and lynx. This region is also an important habitat for Siberian birds that are rarely seen elsewhere in Europe.After a morning of exploration and photography, we will start our journey toward the Arctic coast, passing through breathtaking autumn landscapes along the Tana River valley. As we drive through the colorful birch forests, we will witness the dramatic transition from taiga to tundra. By late afternoon, we will arrive in Kongsfjord, a charming historic fishing village surrounded by Arctic tundra. After checking into our cozy accommodations, we will enjoy a warm dinner and relax in the tranquility of this remote corner of Norway. Overnight in Kongsfjord.
Day 3
Today, we will take a scenic drive to Berlevåg, the northernmost town on mainland Norway. The road is spectacular, winding through three fjords where tundra and rugged cliffs meet the Arctic Ocean. These cliffs are home to sea eagles, gyrfalcons, and reindeer, while the small bays provide resting spots for seabirds and seals. In Berlevåg, we will visit the Harbour Museum and an abandoned fish oil factory, a fascinating relic of Norway’s fishing heritage. We will also witness fish processing at a local plant, where the day’s catch is cleaned and prepared for distribution.Later, we will explore Store Molvik, a remote settlement where golden birch forests meet the Barents Sea. We will return to Kongsfjord for the evening, where we will enjoy a cozy dinner by the sea.Overnight in Kongsfjord.
Day 4
Today’s journey takes us through a diverse range of Arctic landscapes, from the high plateaus of the Varanger Peninsula to the deep fjords along the coast. In Syltefjord, we will board a zodiac boat to explore the towering sea cliffs, home to seals, seabirds, and possibly even whales. Back on land, we will take part in a king crab fishing experience, learning about this fascinating and highly prized Arctic delicacy. A fresh seafood lunch will be served on a sea-view terrace.In the afternoon, we will drive back to Kongsfjord through the Syltefjord valley, where one of the most untouched birch forests in the area showcases its autumn colors. Overnight in Kongsfjord.
Day 5
Today, we will explore the history and stunning landscapes of Veines, a peninsula with dramatic cliffs and remnants of World War II bunkers. Our guide will lead us along a scenic trail to an elevated viewpoint, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Barents Sea.At a sheltered picnic spot, we will enjoy a break surrounded by sea eagles and Arctic seabirds. We will then descend back toward Kongsfjord, where the afternoon is dedicated to relaxation. Guests can choose between: A traditional sauna experience A refreshing dip in the Barents Sea for the adventurous Leisurely walks through the village After a cozy dinner by the sea, we will gather around a bonfire, hoping to witness the first Auroras of the season. Day 6
Today, we will embark on a scenic coastal drive along the Varangerfjord, stopping at various picturesque fishing villages and scenic viewpoints. The area is known for its high concentration of sea eagles, providing excellent opportunities for wildlife photography.Upon arriving in Vardø, we will take a boat trip to Hornøya, home to over 100,000 seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and kittiwakes. This island is a true paradise for nature lovers.In the evening, we will enjoy a bonfire dinner by the sea, hoping to see the Aurora Borealis shimmering over the Arctic Ocean. Overnight in Vardø.
Day 7
We will explore the cultural side of Vardø, visiting:Vardøhus Fortress, a star-shaped fort with a fascinating history, The Witches’ Memorial, commemorating those persecuted in the 17th century, The Drakkar Monument, symbolizing the ancient connection between humans and the Arctic Later, we will journey back along the Varangerfjord, stopping to visit:The “Italia” airship pylon, linked to Umberto Nobile’s historic Arctic expedition. The Neiden church and waterfall, a peaceful spot for a forest barbecue lunch. Crossing into Finnish Lapland, we will arrive in Kaamanen, where we will stay in a traditional log-built hotel. A delicious dinner of local specialties awaits us, and if conditions allow, we will search for our final Aurora Borealis of the trip. Overnight in Kaamanen.
Day 8
After breakfast, we will drive back to Kirkenes Airport for departure, bringing with us unforgettable memories of Arctic landscapes, wildlife encounters, and the mesmerizing Northern Lights.As always, the itinerary may be adjusted based on weather conditions and natural phenomena, ensuring the best possible experience in harmony with the Arctic environment.
